The Manu biosphere reserve has always been the territory of ancestral peoples such as the Matsiguenkas, considered to be the expert hunters and connoisseurs of the medicinal secrets of plants whose heritage goes back thousands of years. In this program allows you an authentic experience to connect with the magic of the Amazon, learning from the rituals, beliefs and the use of medicinal plants of the Matsiguenka culture.

You will enjoy Temazcal sessions outdoors in the tranquility of the Amazonian environment.

Day 01: Cusco – Cloud Forest – Matsiguenka Shipetiari Community (BL, C)

In the morning we will pick you up from the hotel, our destination will be the exuberant region of the cloud forest where the Andes end and give way to the Amazon. During the tour we will visit the chullpas of Ninamarka (pre-Inca funerary precincts) and then head to the colorful colonial town of Paucartambo.

We will ascend to the Acjanaco pass (3,550 m.s.) which is the entrance to the Manu National Park, from this point you will have an incredible view of the lush valley.

We continue the journey until we reach the port of Atalaya (550 masl), where we change transport by a motorized boat that will take us through the waters of the Madre de Dios high river, until we reach the Matsiguenka community of Shipetiari. The Matsiguenka community is adjacent to the Manu National Park, after the welcome we will settle in our comfortable rooms.

Later we will have the opportunity to explore the jungle, in a nocturnal walk, in search of fauna, surrounded by the most extravagant sounds that make this place a mysterious place.

Day 02: Matsiguenka Shipetiari Community (B, L, D)

After breakfast, we will go out to explore the jungle accompanied by a member of the community to learn firsthand the secrets of the forest. This walk will offer us an excellent opportunity to get to know the ecosystem of the Manu jungle, when passing between trees over 20 meters high. The lodge has a very extensive trail system to explore the Manu jungle and to recover our strength and channel our energy, we will have a Temazcal session with medicinal or aromatic herbs, this session will be led by a local resident.

Day 03: Matsiguenka Shipetiari Community (B, L, D)

In the morning we will have a new opportunity to explore the forest and also visit some native families, we will have a time to learn a little of the daily life of our new friends, we will carry out activities with them, such as the harvest of yucca, banana or other products in season, and in the afternoon, we will participate in a campfire and traditional food, such as Pacamoto (pieces of fish cooked in bamboo), banana and other local products, we will spend some time exchanging experiences with the Matsiguenkas.

Day 04: Matsiguenka Shipetiari Community – Cusco (D, BL)

At the scheduled time we said goodbye to our friends and embarked to Atalaya and then continue the trip in our transport to the city of Cusco.
