Salkantay - Machu Picchu 5 Days / 4 Nights

Itinerary

DAY 1: CUSCO-MOLLEPATA-CHALLACANCHA-MARCOCCASA

Very early we will pick up the passengers from their respective hostels between 04:30  and 05:00 hrs. We will leave Cusco and pass through the local areas of Izcuchaca y Limatambo and after three hours we will arrive at Mollepata (2800 m.s.n.m).

After breakfast we will travell by bus for 45 minutes to Challacancha (3400 m.s.n.m) where we will start out walk at approximatly 09:30 hrs unill the area called Soraypampa where we will have lunch. After we will visit the lagoon Humantay Humantay (4200 m.s.n.m) between the mountains and after return to Soraypampa where we will be camping and spend the first night. The first day will be aproximatly 7 hours and after we will rest and have dinner.

DAY 2: SORAYPAMPA- CHALLWAY-COLPAPAMPA

After breakfast we will begin the days walk. This day will be full of adventures because it will be the day we cross the Pampa of Salkantay, until we arrive at the highest point, the Salkantay pass (4600 m.s.n.m.) and Humantay impressive snowy mountains from where we can apreciate the whole majestic area until we arrive at Huayrac Machay.

After lunch we will continue the trek until Challway where there will be the second camping spot in the Andenes of Challway (2900 m.s.n.m.). The walk this day is approximately 9 hours approx. After we will have our dinner and rest for the evening.

DAY 3: CHALLWAY -COLPAPAMPA -PLAYA SAHUAYACO- SANTA TERESA

This day will be unforgettable because we will see a total change in the natural environment as we will enter a jungle area, we will go to the snowy mountains to a place connecting both sides of the Andes Mountains, with a variety of flora and fauna typical of the area. We will pass by the andian community Arranyanniyoc where we will begin the descent into the jungle. We will pass through cloud forests and see valleys with small formations of thermal pools that continue to the river Santa Teresa. Orchards have taken advantage of the warm and humid micro climate in this area and experts have catelogued them as some of the most beautiful in the world.

We will arrive at a place called La Playa (2000 m.s.n.m.) Where we will continue to Santa Teresa by bus for approximatly 45 minutes where we will camp (1500 m.s.n.m.) with a plesant and warm climate. After a break we will go to the thermal springs and enjoy the well-deserved hot water. Later we will have dinner and after a rest, we will go to the thermal baths to enjoy the well-deserved pleasure of the hot water. After we will have our dinner and rest for the evening.

DAY 4: SANTA TERESA-HIDROELECTRICA-AGUAS CALIENTES.

We will have breakfast at 08:00 hrs, leave our camp in Santa Teresa, cross the Santa Teresa Bridge and ascend to the lake of the river. We will continue walking, passing by a variety of coca leaf plantations and banana plantations, etc., until we arrive at the old Central Hidroeléctrica (1400 m.s.n.m) where we will have lunch and after a breif rest begin the last stretch of the walk. We will arrive at the town of Aguas Calientes about 3 hours later, you will be taken to your respective hotels and later we will meet again and enjoy our dinner. We will spend the night in Aguas Calientes (2000 m.s.n.m.)

DAY 5: MACHUPICCHU

We will have breakfast very early to later ascend the walk to the Sanctuary of Machupicchu (2450 m.s.n.m), here we will begin our guided tour that will last 2:30 hours, later we will have timeto continue wandering, taking photos and the ascend the Huayna Picchu Mountain and enjoy the extordinary view and enigmatic place. Later we will return to Aguas Calientes for lunch and later after a breif rest we will board the train to return to Ollantaytambo. The train trip is approximatly 2 hrs, later in Ollantaytambo we will meet our bus that will take you back to your hotel in Cusco.
