DAY 1: SACRED VALLEY-AGUAS CALIENTES

The excursion to the Sacred Valley is one of the most popular excursions in the region. The Sacred Valley of the Incas was a crucial area for the Inca Empire and functioned as an agricultural, spiritual and political center for them. Along its length there are many Inca and Pre-Inca sites that can be found and the visit of the Sacred Valley includes 2 main sites, Pisac and Ollantaytambo. Lasting a whole day you will get to appreciate the fine architectural works that the Incas produced and see the beautiful landscape of the sacred valley. Many tourists choose to do this tour just before their visit to Machu Picchu, since they can choose to finish in Ollantaytambo from where they take the train to Aguas Calientes. Night in Aguas Calientes.

DAY 2: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHUPICCHU

In the morning we will travel by bus (25 minutes) to the Inca town of Machupicchu, with beautiful scenery throughout the trip, the journey itself is a wonderful experience with unique landscapes of the jungle. Following the course of the road you will arrive to Machu Picchu for your guided tour. The tour takes about 2 hours during which you will learn about the Incas and visit the most important areas of the citadel.

After your tour you will have free time to explore the site by yourself. There are several areas that are not included in the tour like the Inca bridge, you can ask your guide for suggestions. Later in the afternoon take the bus back to Aguas Calientes where you will board the train back to Ollantaytambo (approximately 2 hours) and then continue by bus to Cusco.

DAY 3. RAINBOW MOUNTAIN – RED VALLEY

The Rainbow Mountain of Peru, also known as Vinicunca, is stunning and can be seen on the spectacular Ausangate area. This trip that allows you to see the Rainbow Mountains requires a trek of at least 3 hours (3 hours each way up and down the mountain).

On this trek you will see quaint villages, beautiful adobe style houses, herds of llamas and alpacas and you will have magnificent views of the Ausangate Mountain (6,385 m / 20,945 ft.), the highest mountain in Cusco region.

Itinerary:

We will pick you up between 03:30 hrs. – 04:00 hrs. Then we are going to set out on a drive through the South Valley. The drive takes around 3 hours to get Japura community where we are going to stop for breakfast.  After that we are going to drive you 15 minutes more to Kayrawiri community (4,326 m / 14,189 ft.), where we are going to start with the trekking of 3 hours approx. long to the rainbow mountain (most of the way is going up). In the way up we are going to be able to enjoy amazing landscapes of herds of alpacas and llamas, the Ausangate Mountain, many red mountains and traditional local houses. When we finally reach our trek the Rainbow Mountains (5,020 m / 16,466 ft.), you will have time to explore the area and take pictures. We will spend approximately 30 minutes.

After the amazing view of the landscapes on the top we are going to down to the Red Valley Where you can see large and spectacular red mountains and also many llamas and alpacas and you will be amazed by nature,  that take  2:30 hours approx. (Japura community) where we are going to have lunch. Then you are going to be drive to Cusco.

Useful Information

USEFUL INFORMATION

  • We recommend that you take a lunch or a good snack with you to Machu Picchu
  • If you are in the rainy season, ask your guide.
  • Machu Picchu area is humid and hot in the afternoons (when it is not raining)
  • Bring enough drinking water and / or a rehydrator since inside Machu Picchu the prices are very expensive
  • You are allowed to take a bottle of water and snacks at the ruins of Machu Picchu
  • The day rucksack should be only small, large backpacks are not allowed in Machu Picchu
  • For the hike to the Rainbow Mountain, bring some snack.
  • Bring extra money in soles if you need to rent a horse to get to Rainbow Mountain
